Ocean Networks Canada education coordinator Natasha Ewing and observatory support engineer Ryan Flagg walked on the ice directly above the icListen hydrophone installed at the seafloor near the dock in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, in Canada's Arctic (http://www.oceannetworks.ca/installations/observatories/arctic/cambridge-bay, depth 7.6m).
In this location, the bay freezes over in October and remains frozen through June. There is only a short July-September period when ship traffic and underwater installations are possible. Despite harsh conditions, the instrumentation installed here records data continually throughout the winter.
